Wednesday Evening Open Thread

So I coined a metaphor about Iraq in the comments today:

"To coin a metaphor: Terri's brain is half-gone, it's time to pull the plug."
Cute, right? Snappy, edgy--the perfect way to convince anybody who's still on the fence that we need to Bring Our Boys Home Now. "Terri's brain is half-gone, it's time to pull the plug! "Terri's brain is half-gone, it's time to pull the plug!" You see, that is why I'm such a good spokesperson for our side--Johnny A-List could teach ol' George Lakoff a thing or two about message-framing. (You can use my metaphor if you want--I coined it, but you can use it.)

Now, without any further ado, I, Johnny A-List, declare this thread .... OPEN!!

UPDATE: Yes, I said "bring our boys home," but yes, I'm aware that there are girls over there, and yes, we need to bring them home, too. (....hopefully they aren't over there acting like big girls, though, or we're REALLY fucked, LOL.)

Your new metaphor makes me moist! Watch out Thom Friedman!

What's the link to your fanclub? If you don't have one, I swear I'll become your groupie or "something!"

Yes, Johnny. This is why I spend my days and nights anxiously awaiting your latest words of wisdom and you certainly have delivered this time.

Maybe you should write a book. I know I'd pay a zillion dollars to read a few hundred pages of you stroking your own ego. Mary Cheney, watch out!

I see you coined another phrase a little further down thread.

"It's over. Humpty Dumpty is broken."

I smell a T-shirt! Cha-ching!

And dude, if you're going to be on TV you might want to iron your shirt. Even if it's crappy fake TV.

I'm so glad that you could see just the right way to make it seem like you've had that opinion about bringing the troops home all along. What an intelligent way to lead the flock.

it's all very well to have a lovefest on your blog, but what you want is to have other blogs have lovefests about your lovefests. The way to do that is to have a six word entry:

"This is why I love [name of extremely popular blog]" and link to some entry. . . see? it's easy and oh. . . .

this isn't the "what you should do here" suggestion thread, is it.

Am I banned yet?

Kate R you'd have to go a bit further than that to get banned.

I remember when people were getting tossed when they disagreed with Johnny about Kerry as candidate, tossed after criticising Wesley Clark, tossed over the Democratic Party toward gays, tossed after dissing Johnny's friend Andy Sullivan, tossed after criticising Johnny over his treatment of Cynthia McKinney, tossed after criticising him with his photo-op with Katherine Harris, and many, many other occasions. I've lost count. Post something like this if you really want to get banned:

I guess I should've expounded upon my earlier point, Tom from DC/VA. Santorum ("Latin for asshole") is Pennsylvania's problem to deal with, isn't he? Honey Chile, ya'll can get all outraged and inform the whole world but y'all don't get to vote on PA's Senators, do y'all...

I guess we need a top gay activist blogger indigenous to PA to point out Santorum's little indiscretions to the ignorant PA voters like me, don't we. Oh wait,... we already know and we can't wait to vote against him. A lot of us plan to vote for Patrick Murphy also, even though he doesn't get half as much attention from internationally famous film-stars and bloggers.

Being called the "Rula Lenska of Blogging" probably piqued his anger this time.

the Democratic Party toward gays

That should've been "the Democratic Party policy toward gays"

(I wish Blogger allowed editing of posts as well as the "delete" option.)
